Artist Bio

 

Justin Solomon is a Louisiana based visual artist whose work explores the Black identity, emotion, and transformation through painting, mixed media, and digital art. His work combines recognizable figures with surreal and symbolic imagery, drawing from mythology, science fiction, fantasy, popular culture, and everyday experiences to create visual narratives that encourage reflection and imagination.

 

Art has been an important part of Solomon’s life since childhood. After discovering his interest and ability in art at an early age, he continued developing his skills independently while studying graphic design at Delta College of Arts & Technology, where he earned an associate degree in 2019. His background in graphic design continues to influence the way he approaches composition, color, visual storytelling, and experimentation within his artwork.

 

Solomon’s creative process is driven by experimentation and curiosity. He works primarily with acrylic paint, ink, markers, and digital tools, often allowing ideas to develop from unexpected combinations of images, personal experiences, music, film, animation, comics, and other forms of visual culture. Recurring elements in his work including figures, hands, halos, flowers, wings, and fragmented forms allow him to explore ideas of identity, vulnerability, resilience, growth, and the forces that shape who we become.

 

His work has been exhibited throughout Louisiana and internationally, including multiple presentations with the You Aren’t Alone Project and the LSU School of Art’s WILD: Summer Contemporary Juried Exhibition, where he received Third Place in 2024. His work has also been presented through The Holy Art Gallery’s exhibitions in London, England and Milan, Italy. Beyond his studio practice, Solomon has contributed to the You Aren’t Alone Project’s community mental-health initiatives. In 2026, he designed the visual artwork and packaging for the project’s “I Can Create” creative mental health toolkits, which were developed with local artists, mental health professionals, and community partners and distributed to more than 100 students at Capitol High School in Baton Rouge.

Solomon continues to develop his practice through painting, mixed media, and digital work, exploring new ways to connect personal experience, imagination, and contemporary culture.
